Area rugs are often used to protect floors and carpets, but that is no reason not to give your area rugs all the care and protection you can, too!
- Vacuum your area rugs or shake out regularly so that dirt and grit do not sift into the roots of the fibers.
- Avoid walking on the fringed area of the rug.
- From time to time, indulge your area rug with a professional cleaning.
- As with any rug or carpet, don't let spills have a chance to set. Blot them up quickly. Don't rub or scrub.
- If you spill a liquid on your rug that is water-based
(such as gravy, wine or whatever), you can carefully and
QUICKLY clean the rug. Use a mild, bleach-free detergent,
diluted with water. Always remember this tried and
true cleaning tip: blot from the edge of the spot to the
center. Don't blot from the center out because
that will spread the spill. To dry, blot with a clean dry
cloth. You may also want to lift the rug so air can circulate
until it is dry. If you spill an oil-based substance
on the rug, contact a professional.
